If your table uses D&D’s 2024 rules and you complete a valid Long Rest, you regain all spent Hit Point Dice. Do not leave the counter partially restored because you remember a different rule. Confirm the rest, then review the resource in DnD Dynamic Sheet.
The sheet supports counters and character resources. This example explains which value to check; pressing a control does not itself certify that the character rested.
Six dice in total, one remaining
Fictional example: the character has six Hit Point Dice in total, one available and five spent. The table confirms that they have just finished a Long Rest under the 2024 rules, without a particular exception changing this recovery.
Review it as follows:
- Before: one available die out of six.
- Recovery: the five spent dice.
- Afterwards: six available out of six.
Do not add another six to the remaining one and get seven. Recovery restores spent dice; it does not increase the character’s total. You do not roll those dice to determine how many this rule restores either.
Check the rest before changing the counter
The 2024 glossary requires at least eight hours for a Long Rest, including at least six hours of sleep and no more than two of light activity. You need at least 1 Hit Point to start it. Rules also govern interruptions and when another rest can begin.
“Eight hours passed in the story” is therefore not the only check. If combat, damage or another relevant interruption occurred, review the complete rule with the DM. Apply recovery once the table establishes that the rest validly finished.
Bringing it to DnD Dynamic Sheet
If you represent this resource with a custom counter, create it using “+”, “Counter” and “Add”, give it a clear name and set current and maximum values. When adding a counter, the sheet lets you choose recovery on a Short Rest, Long Rest or both. Check that the configuration fits the resource and your table’s rules.
After resting, check the displayed values and correct the record if appropriate. Review other resources individually: one counter recovering does not establish that another feature uses the same recovery condition. Read its description.
Sources and choosing your sheet
This recovery rule appears under “Long Rest” in the official 2024 glossary. If your table uses another edition or house rules, agree on the criterion before updating.
Read DnD Dynamic Sheet’s documented controls and demonstrations on the official website. It is a paid Windows beta for one device, storing characters locally. Initial activation needs internet. Check whether that workflow fits your table before buying.
