You have 12 of 25 HP: Bloodied adds no penalty on its own

With a 25 Hit Point maximum, 12 is below half; 13 is above it. In the 2024 rules, having half your Hit Points or fewer is called Bloodied. It has no game effect on its own, although a specific feature may use it.

DnD Dynamic Sheet lets you track current Hit Points. Before adding a penalty, consult the rule requiring it: the threshold’s name does not invent one.

Compare the numbers first

Fictional example: maximum 25, current 18. You take 6 damage already resolved by the table, leaving 12. Half the maximum is 12.5; 12 meets “half or fewer”. Regaining 1 Hit Point takes you to 13, above half.

Do not round the threshold upwards and call 13 half of 25. A direct comparison avoids that confusion. This calculation does not determine resistance, damage or healing; it starts with quantities the table has already resolved.

Read the feature

The official 2024 damage and healing rules explain that Bloodied has no effect by itself but may trigger other effects. If your character or an opponent has a feature mentioning it, read its condition, target and duration.

Do not turn “I have 12” into “all my attacks have Disadvantage” without a rule establishing it. Nor should you assume returning to 13 HP ends every earlier effect: that depends on the text producing it, not just crossing the threshold.

Update the sheet without losing the maximum

  1. Keep the correct maximum and adjust current Hit Points after resolving the change.
  2. Compare both values to determine whether the threshold applies.
  3. If a feature applies, record what its text requires in notes or counters.
  4. Review again when current or maximum Hit Points change.

The sheet supports notes and custom counters; we do not claim it automatically identifies every Bloodied-related feature. Temporary Hit Points and Death Saving Throws use other rules and are not resolved by adding a label to this calculation.

A play aid, not another rulebook

DnD Dynamic Sheet is an available Windows x64 beta with characters stored on the computer. It is paid software and initial activation requires a connection. Review its product facts for capabilities and download. Confirm your table’s edition: this explanation uses 2024.
