Subtract travelled distance from the remainder, not base speed
For this guide’s example, the table confirms a speed of 30 feet and two movements within the same turn: first 10, then 5. Fifteen feet remain from that movement budget: 30 − 10 − 5 = 15. This does not turn the character’s base speed into 15.
DnD Dynamic Sheet documents movement tracking and notes. Keep the character’s underlying value distinct from what remains during a turn, after the table has resolved the cost.
Two segments using one budget
This example is invented. We explicitly assume speed does not change, no movement is added and both segments cost the stated amounts:
| Point in the turn | Confirmed movement | Example remainder |
|---|---|---|
| Start | None | 30 feet |
| First segment | 10 feet | 20 feet |
| Second segment | Another 5 feet | 15 feet |
Pausing between segments to discuss an action does not itself create another budget of 30 in this calculation. If somebody suggests recording 25 after the second segment, check whether the earlier 10 were forgotten.
A sufficient manual note is “Current turn: 30 available; 10 and 5 spent; 15 remaining.” This is neither a formula for every game situation nor a newly promised automatic app field.
Check which number you are changing
Before editing the sheet, identify the value: character speed, movement remaining this turn or an agreed adjustment? A lower number can be correct for the remainder and wrong for base speed.
If you cannot remember recording the first segment, reconstruct what the table confirmed before subtracting it again. If circumstances change speed or cost, resolve that rule first. Terrain, movement modes and specific actions fall outside this simple 30−10−5 assumption.
The official D&D Basic Rules explain that movement can be split within a turn. Check the edition and rules your group uses. This calculation does not establish which actions are available or when a turn change should reset an application control.
Let the record follow the table’s decision
- Confirm the amount available for this case and its units.
- Record only completed, resolved movement, not a route still being proposed.
- Subtract each confirmed cost once.
- Update the relevant movement remainder, retaining base speed if unchanged.
- Review the state when the turn changes according to the actual sheet behaviour and your table’s agreement.
The app is not credited with automatically importing paths, detecting walls or applying every rule. It is not a virtual tabletop or campaign manager.
Check the fit for your table
D&D Beyond for players and Shard were read as category references on 25 October 2026. No game-based automation comparison was performed, and their controls are not assigned to this application.
DnD Dynamic Sheet is available as a Windows x64 beta. Characters and configuration are stored locally, and core use does not require a remote server. Buying a lifetime licence for one device provides the download through purchase confirmation. It is an independent application unaffiliated with Wizards of the Coast.
Read the official facts and introduction with recordings. If you already use it, prepare the example without real data and check that you can distinguish speed from the amount still available to spend.
