Helping an attack does not lend your attack bonus to an ally

Advantage changes the dice; the attacker supplies the bonus

Using Help to assist an attack in D&D 2024 distracts an enemy within 5 feet of you, giving advantage to the next attack roll by an ally against it before your next turn starts. It does not add your attack bonus. Your action creates an opportunity; the attack remains your ally’s roll.

Read Help in the official 2024 glossary. Check your table’s edition and any specific modifying rule. Do not confuse this option with assisting an ability check, which has different conditions.

One example, two separate sheets

Invented case with no other advantage or disadvantage: you are within 5 feet of the enemy and spend your action distracting it. An ally then makes their next attack against that enemy before your next turn. Their attack bonus is +5; yours is +3.

With advantage they roll two d20s. Rolls of 7 and 16 use the 16, adding their +5 for a total of 21. They do not add 7+16 or your +3 to reach 24. The example explains one roll; it cannot guarantee a hit without the AC and other applicable rules.

What to record in DnD Dynamic Sheet

The product facts page describes action tracking and notes. You can use that record to clarify what you spent:

  1. Mark the action used in your turn tracking.
  2. Note the enemy you distracted using a reference your table recognizes.
  3. State the limit: the next allied attack roll against that enemy before your next turn starts.
  4. When the benefit is used or expires, update the note so it is not granted again.

This is a suggested manual workflow. It does not claim that the app chooses targets, transfers advantage to another sheet, detects reach or resolves the rule automatically. The attacker checks their own roll with the table.

Helping a check is a separate option

The 2024 glossary’s ability-check assistance starts with a skill or tool proficiency and being able to assist; the DM decides whether it is possible. Do not transfer those conditions unread to attack distraction or turn Help into a universal numerical bonus.

The Windows beta of DnD Dynamic Sheet is available with a purchased one-device license. Initial activation requires internet; afterwards the sheet and local data can be used offline, while updates and online validation require a connection. Visit the product presentation for purchase and downloads. For the dice calculation, continue with advantage and modifiers.
